FAQ-000023 · Calculation & Verification

What information does Mia need for a calculation?

Describe your system and your objective so that the calculation is based on clear inputs.

Dlubal CALC · Updated:

The short answer

Tell Mia the component, its dimensions, the material, the supports, and the loads with units. Add the calculation objective as well as the applicable standard and National Annex, if they are already determined. Clearly indicate any missing information. Ask Mia to clarify any open points with you before the calculation and to list assumptions separately from your specifications.

These details help you get started

Describe spans, cross-sections, supports, and lateral restraints. For loads, specify magnitude, direction, point of application, and unit. State whether self-weight is already included and whether the values are characteristic or design values.

Explain whether you need a preliminary design, internal forces, deformations, or specific verifications. Provide agreed limit values. A single result does not mean that all required verifications have been performed.

How to formulate your request

I want to analyze a 6 m long single-span steel beam made of S235. The profile is IPE 300. The vertical uniform load is 12 kN/m including self-weight. Before the calculation, clarify with me the exact support conditions, lateral restraint, load level, load combinations, and the applicable standards. Then show the inputs, assumptions, calculation steps, and the verifications performed.

This example is a request template. It does not yet contain all the information for a complete verification and is not a calculated result.

Check the adopted inputs

Compare the input summary with your task. Add missing values and correct any misunderstood units or dimensions before proceeding with the calculation. For drawings, the origin and legibility of the adopted dimensions should also be clear.
