First, compare the system used, the inputs, and assumptions with your task. Then check units, loads, applicable standards, and calculation steps. Review which verifications have actually been performed and which are still missing. Ask Mia to clarify unclear or contradictory results. A convincingly formulated answer does not replace a professional review for the specific project.
Start with the calculation basis
Check geometry, material, cross-section, supports, and restraints. Are load directions and positions correct? Was self-weight considered exactly once? Are load levels and combinations specified? Compare the units of inputs and results.
Distinguish between specified, sourced, assumed, and calculated values. Missing information must not be silently replaced by an assumption.
Check results and scope of verification
Ask to see formulas, values used, and sources. For a beam, support reactions as well as moment, shear force, and deformation diagrams help to check the result. An independent comparison with a suitable hand calculation or software can reveal discrepancies.
A deformation calculation alone is not a complete verification of load-bearing capacity. Check which limit states, stability issues, and other requirements have been investigated. Do not transfer results to another system without verification.
How to handle discrepancies
Name the differing value and your basis for comparison. Ask Mia to explain the cause and to recalculate with the corrected inputs. Afterwards, use only results that belong to this new calculation revision. Do not treat announced but not executed RFEM calculations as verified software results.
