The short answer
General AI assistants can do a lot, but they are not made for structural analysis. CALC also uses modern language models and adds what you need for structural design. Mia runs structural Skills with a traceable calculation and a PDF report, works directly with RFEM 6 and RSECTION, and exchanges models in common BIM and CAD formats. As with any structural analysis software, you remain responsible for the results.
Structural Skills instead of open chat answers
A Skill is a small application with fixed steps: input, calculation, design check, and PDF report. A recurring task therefore runs the same traceable way every time. There are Skills for steel beams, purlins, and columns according to EC3 and AISC, for columns, two-span beams, and punching shear according to EC2, for timber beams according to EC5, and for footings according to EC7. Further Skills cover load assumptions, snow loads, crane runways, and load combinations.
The range keeps growing, and many more Skills are in preparation. Starting with the Starter plan, you can also create your own Skills from a chat and reuse your office's workflows again and again.
Work with RFEM, drawings, projects, and reports
Through the connection to RFEM 6 and RSECTION, Mia creates models, modifies and calculates them, and checks them for instabilities, for example. You can upload plans, drawings, and PDF documents. Mia reads the information, derives a structural system from it, and continues the calculation. A floor plan can thus become a slab in RFEM directly.
For data exchange, CALC imports DXF, IFC, SAF, SDNF, DSTV, and STL files into RFEM. From RFEM, you can export to DXF, IFC, SAF, SDNF, DSTV, STL, and STEP. The easiest way to bring models from Revit, Tekla, or SCIA into RFEM is via SAF or IFC.
You assign chats, calculations, models, and reports to projects, together with the construction project, designer, client, and cover page. On request, Mia generates an explanatory image for an answer, for example of the structural system, the load path, or a failure mode. You choose the focus, style, and level of detail yourself and can add the finished image directly to the PDF report.
With the Enterprise plan, your team can add its own documents through Company Knowledge, such as guidelines, standard details, or sample calculations. Mia then searches these sources for her answers and names the ones she used.
What else users do with CALC
Many people use Mia as a knowledgeable colleague in their daily work. She helps with questions about operating RFEM and RSTAB, with error messages, and with finding instabilities in a model. She puts internal forces, deformations, and utilization ratios into context and, if you like, checks results with an independent hand calculation.
Mia also explains design checks step by step, writes and fixes Python scripts for the Dlubal API, and answers technical questions that no Skill covers yet, such as stability, timber, geotechnics, glass, or aluminum. Students and young engineers also use CALC to have relationships explained at their own pace.
As with any structural analysis software, check the results for plausibility before you use them.
