What is the difference between Voice Input and the Voice Agent?

Talk to Mia: available from Starter, with controlled inputs and a traceable chat history.

Dlubal CALC · Updated:

The short answer

With speech input, you dictate text for the message field. With the Voice Agent, you have a live conversation with Mia. The Voice Agent is included in Starter, Professional, and Enterprise, but not in Free. Log in, start the Voice Agent in the chat, and allow microphone access. Before your first use, confirm the information about audio processing. Mia forwards technical tasks to CALC. Check recognized numbers, units, and results in the chat.

Which subscription do I need?

The Voice Agent is included in Starter, Professional, and Enterprise. It is not available in the Free plan. You also need a logged-in account, an available microphone, working audio output, and an internet connection.

Usage consumes credits. Audio processing and technical CALC tasks may incur separate costs. Check the usage information in the chat and your credit balance. The subscription does not mean unlimited free voice conversations.

How to start and end the conversation

Open a chat and select the Voice Agent using the sound wave icon. Read the displayed information about audio processing and confirm if you agree. Then allow your browser to access the desired microphone.

Wait until Mia is ready and describe your task. Use the microphone button to mute and unmute your microphone during the conversation. To end the conversation, press the Voice Agent button again. Muting does not end the session.

What is the difference from speech input?

Speech input converts a recording into text and enters it into the message field. Depending on the selected method, this happens locally on your device or temporarily on a Dlubal server. You can review the text before sending.

With the Voice Agent, microphone audio is transmitted to the speech provider during the active conversation. The provider used is specified in the consent information. Conversation contributions and technical answers appear in the chat. Muting stops your microphone transmission; ending closes the voice session.

How to phrase technical tasks

First state the goal, then the system, dimensions, material, and loads. Speak numbers, units, and profile names clearly. Ask Mia to summarize important information and correct any recognized errors before requesting a calculation.

For example: “Mia, help me collect the inputs for a single-span beam. The span is six meters, the profile is IPE 300, and the material is S235. Do not calculate yet. First ask me about supports and loads.” This is a sample task, not a recorded conversation or a calculated result.

Check technical results in the chat, including assumptions, calculation steps, and scope of verification. A spoken result alone does not constitute a complete verification or an executed RFEM calculation run.

If Mia cannot hear you or you cannot hear Mia

Check the microphone permission in your browser, the selected microphone, muting, and the volume of your output device. End the conversation and restart it after correcting any issues.

If the Voice Agent is locked, check your login and subscription. If the button is missing despite a suitable subscription, the voice function may be temporarily unavailable. In the meantime, use the text chat.
